The UFC heads back to it’s network broadcast partner FOX for what has to be said is an almost PPV worthy card. With the aura of mystique surrounding the Diaz brothers and their Stockton style of fighting people expect high volume and they expect excitement. Meanwhile in contrast very few fans truly know what Jim Miller is about but trust me the guy is a talent. Also on the card is a clash between perennial top 3 welterweight Josh Koscheck and the ultra heavy handed Hendricks. Pretty much top to bottom this a solid card that has some real ramifications for the divisions they are occurring in.

Not going to lie pretty fucking stoked for what could be a truly amazing main-event. If there is one knock against this card it is the lack of a main-event worthy semi-main, MacDonald is a talented prospect and one day could very well take over for Tri-Star when perennial Welterweight and p4p great GSP calls it a day, but right now he is relatively unknown. I think that if Diaz/Miller fight was on this card it could be considered the card of year (at least until Silva/Sonnen II). With all that said the hype surrounding the main-event keeps making me forget that it’s not as stacked as some of the cards in the past due to extra demands of Fox\Fuel\FX.

Main card

Light Heavyweight Championship bout: United States Jon Jones (c) vs. United States Rashad Evans

A fight that has been a long time coming. The mainstream should be so much more behind this, it has every element that makes combat sports great. Two protagonists, former friends, the split in the camp, the insinuations towards lack of character and of just being straight fake and that’s before you even start to think about the actual meat…the fight it’s self. It’s not that often that I get truly captivated by the smack talking in MMA, but the way this fight has unfolded is almost like a Shakespearian play. With the pretender, the master and the incumbent all battling for their reputations and eventual legacies the level of emotion is palpable, all you have to do is watch the face to face interviews from Inside the UFC, the preparations for the fight on the Primetime show and hype from the Countdown show and the general atmosphere surrounding the fight makes it so much more than just a fight.

It seems like it’s been an age since I put together one of these posts, since I was in LA at least. For that I am sorry it’s a combination of a lack of MMA and me working my balls off. Anyway the UFC goes to Sweden with a fight that is sure to stair up some Nationalistic tenancies.  Given the recent Overeem controversy and the impending Jones\Evans Silva\Sonnen title tilts it would be easy to forget about what is a very respectable card that has some very interesting matches. With PPV numbers taking a bit of a hit lately it would seem like the perfect time for a solid TV card, hopefully this UFC on Fuel card does the trick, not only can it provide some excitement but also it will hopefully provide Sweden with a more viable MMA scene, because the Nordic countries still have the potential to be a force in MMA just ask Joachim “Hellboy”

First of all I feel the need to apologise for the lack of posts over the past month or so been super busy actually having a life, I know hard to believe right? Anyway now that I am not a bum I am going to have to update whenever I get the chance. I missed two UFC events and a Strikeforce event (I watched them but obviously as you can see no post on any of the three events). Anyway with all that said below is a post for the new FX powered Ultimate Fighter Season 14 featuring coaches Urijah Faber and Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. Oh btw, the end of the month sees ‘The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” start, the coaches being   Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva, so double TUF goodness.

Anwyay as a sort of an apology here is Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar talking shit, it’s actually really funny so enjoy.

The UFC has it’s first card on the smaller of the three FOX stations involved in the new seven year deal. I believe FUEL is the new home for the Ultimate Fighter Live and will also be the sort of home for cards akin to the UFC Fight Night cards that used to air on SpikeTV! A solid maincard and good undercard, if it were not for the influx of Strikeforce talent the PPV cards would be pretty sparse.

After a multitude of changes with GSP first scheduled to face Condit then Diaz, then the change due to ACL tear and subsequent surgery this is the best of what could have been a way worse situation for the UFC. The UFC is on a streak of solid cards, something like 14-15 in a row. Since singing the vast majority of the Strikeforce talent, they have been slowly but surely sorting through the contenders the likes of Diaz and Werdum are welcome additions to the UFC fold. With an undercard that is littered with TUF alum there is definitely some name recognition associated with the undercard as well.

The UFC returns to network TV with another PPV worthy card. Three solid main card fights and a very respectable FX undercard. With the UFC seemingly getting ready to launch the next stage of their 10 year plan it would seem that the focus is shifting back to international markets again, with TUF Brazil on it’s way it and I would imagine plans to do the same in other established markets the future for Zuffa looks good.  Anyway a card with two potential title eliminators on it and a fight between a world-class ADCC Champion against a true prospect this has all the hallmarks of an unmissable fight card.

Weekly Dose of Awesome: Tucker & Dale vs Evil

T&D

Yea I know technically it’s been like a month since I did one of these, I am lazy fucker I know but League of Legends has had me in it’s rage inducing grip so sue me. Anyway if you don’t know I’m hear to let you know Dale & Tucker is just plain great, in fact it’s not plain it’s some flavour that you like great. A spoof horror film that is so well done that it forced me to not be lazy. Set in the Appalachian mountains it follows two Hilllbillies who find themselves thrust into an unbelievable situation via a set of coincidences and unfortunate circumstances. At it’s heart it’s a tale about two best friends and a girl, though that’s not nearly doing it justice.

Below are the usual trailer, wiki and stream links, enjoy what I think is sure to be considered a cult classic for years to come.

Full Wiki

A group of college students, including Allison (Katrina Bowden), Chad (Jesse Moss), Chloe (Chelan Simmons), Chuck (Travis Nelson), Jason (Brandon Jay McLaren), Naomi (Christie Laing), Todd (Alex Arsenault), Mitch (Adam Beauchesne) and Mike (Joseph Allan Sutherland), are going camping in West Virginia. While at a gas station, they encounter Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine) two well-meaning hillbillies who have just bought the vacation home of their dreams: a run-down lakefront cabin in the middle of the woods. On Tucker’s advice, Dale tries to talk to Allison, but because of his inferiority complex and appearance, he only scares her and her friends.

Tucker and Dale soon continue to their derelict cabin and are delighted in their new home despite structural hazards resulting from the building’s state of disrepair and begin repair work. Meanwhile, in the nearby woods, the college students have set up camp. Chad tries to put the moves on Allison, but she spurns his advances, angering him. Later, around the campfire, Chad tells everyone a story recounting an event known as the “The Memorial Day Massacre,” a hillbilly attack which took place twenty years previously in the same section of the woods, leaving only one survivor among the college-aged victims. Soon after, the group decide to go skinny dipping in a nearby lake.

After what was perhaps one of the more memorable PPV’s of recent times, if only for the Aldo knee on Mendes and the wheel kick KO from Edson Barbosa, the UFC returns to new broadcast partner FOX with  the undercqrd being shown on Fuel and the maincard on FX. A very respectable card that has some solid names in competitive fights it is yet another example of the UFC diversifying their business model, maybe one day soon we will see a weekly fight show.

Perhaps a sign of Brazil’s emergence as an economic power the UFC returns to  the spiritual home of Vale Tudo. Another sign of the times is that this card is being marketing in Brazil as the Brazilians versus the world. The atmosphere is sure to be explosive, with the rampant Nationalistic tendencies you can full expect the crowd to be the be chanting the equivalent of “USA, USA, USA!”.  A respectable card with some interesting fights, this is going to be another step in Zuffa’s plans for Brazil with this and the all Brazilian season of The Ultimate Fighter the assault is about to ramp up.
